Privacy Policy
GapTracker helps students plan assignments, track knowledge gaps, measure exam readiness and understand their GPA. Most app data stays on your device; this policy explains the limited cases where data leaves it and how this website uses analytics.
1. Data stored on your device
GapTracker stores the following locally using Apple’s on-device storage technologies. We do not receive this data through a GapTracker account:
- Courses, assignments, exam dates, credits and color labels
- Knowledge gaps, study topics, severity, progress and status
- Study sessions, timers, streaks and statistics
- Grade components, target grades and scores you enter
- Photos, files or voice notes you attach to a topic
Local data is removed when you delete it in the app or uninstall the app, subject to any device backup or iCloud copy controlled through your Apple account.
2. Optional iCloud sync
If you enable iCloud sync, Apple’s iCloud service keeps supported GapTracker data aligned across devices signed in to your Apple account. GapTracker does not operate a separate user-account database. Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
3. Syllabus parsing
When you choose to import a syllabus from a file or photo, the app extracts its text and sends that text through an encrypted HTTPS connection to our parsing service. The service forwards it to Anthropic’s Claude API to return structured topics, grading information and credits for you to review.
- Our Cloudflare Workers service processes the text transiently and does not store the syllabus text.
- Anthropic processes the submitted text under its API and privacy terms.
- If the online service is unavailable, GapTracker may use an on-device fallback and no text leaves your device.

4. Moodle and Canvas connections
If you connect Moodle or Canvas, GapTracker communicates directly from your device with your institution’s learning platform to retrieve the courses, assignments and due dates you choose to use. Your institution’s privacy terms also apply. GapTracker does not require you to create a GapTracker account.
5. Device permissions
The app may request permission only when a related feature needs it:
- Notifications: local study reminders and exam countdowns
- Calendar: study blocks you choose to add
- Camera and Photos: syllabi and topic attachments
- Microphone: voice notes you choose to record
You can change these permissions at any time in your device settings.
6. What the app does not do
- No advertising SDKs or advertising identifiers
- No cross-app behavioral tracking
- No sale or rental of your personal data
7. Website analytics and cookies
This website uses one necessary first-party cookie named gaptracker_analytics_consent to remember whether you accepted or declined analytics. It lasts for up to one year and is not used to identify you.
If you choose “Allow anonymous analytics,” the website records page paths, broad device class, browser locale, referring domain and interactions such as App Store or feature clicks. It does not store a visitor ID, advertising ID, full referrer URL or IP address in the analytics table. Events are deleted after 180 days. Choosing “Only necessary” prevents these analytics events.
You can change your choice at any time through “Cookie settings” in the footer.
8. Children
GapTracker is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Security and retention
Data sent for syllabus parsing is encrypted in transit. Service credentials remain on the server and are not included in the app. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but we limit the data handled and retain it only as described above.
10. Changes and contact
